How is it the airlines can get away with doing business in the manner they do it? They can cancel service with no advance notice. They strand customers far away from home forcing them to miss work, family events, and destroy vacation plans, sometimes under safety concerns and at other times with no excuse whatsoever. Schedules mean little and they lose our belongings. And what recourse do we have? None!
Instead the airlines shuffle us around, tell us to check back and say they are sorry. Do you know they are trained to appease us, say they are sorry and yet they do not really care. Are they giving us free travel for our inconvenience? No! You may get a meal voucher, but that is about it. And what is the federal government doing about it? Nothing! And what do the travelers do about it? They complain.
People complain about it just like they complain about gas and food prices, but we do little else. The big companies know all they need to do is endure some bitching from the public and they made it through the issue with little or no consequences. How about if you complained with your money? How? By not spending it and sending a strong message to businesses and the government we are not going to take their sh*t.
In the news you hear about how concerned economists are about consumer spending or the lack of it. Why? Because it is important. The public has an enormous amount of power and if we stuck together we could bring companies to their knees when they decided to play their games. If we did this we would not have all the air fare games and restrictions from the airlines. You would not have gas companies making billions of dollars in profit and flaunting in our faces. Think about it. Complain with your dollars and you will speak the language companies understand.
I know you are thinking nobody else will join in, but it needs to start somewhere. It can start with you and you could be surprised how it may catch on. Start with the tax rebate and just pay off a bill or put it in the bank and save it. The government and big business is counting on you spending your rebate to stimulate the economy. Me… I am not helping the bastards in Washington or the greedy corporate whores. Like I said it needs to start somewhere.
