Iraq has opened it’s oil fields to foreign oil companies for development. Short term deals with Shell, Exxon and Chevron are said to be under discussion. Reuters is reporting: Iraq throws open door to foreign oil firms
But any awards to U.S. and British firms could anger opponents of the invasion, who have said the 2003 war was designed to give Western oil companies control over Iraqi oil reserves. U.S. and British officials have denied the charges.
And the Bush administration has stated the war was not about oil. It looks more like the Iraqi government is opening it’s oil fields to give that piece of sh*t Bush and his oil cronies a parting gift. Or is it a way to force coalition armies to stay in the region and protect their interests?
What would you do if your employer refused to pay when you went to the toilet? In the UK there is a company who has a policy of not paying their employees when they use the restroom and is making these employees “clock out” when they need to go. What a sh*tty way to treat your workers. You can locate more information on Reuters in an article called: Union anger at “Dickensian” toilet policy
I bet Wal-Mart would like to use this kind of policy and has probably already had it’s blood sucking attorneys and managers looking into a way to pull it off. Next thing we will be hearing is Wal-Mart will start implementing the same policy. Who knows, maybe they already have the policy and are threating to terminate any employees who talk about it.
Today I filled the gas tank on my 2007 Honda Civic EX 2 door and it cost me $43. For combined driving around town and freeway, I got 36.5 miles per gallon. Not bad. But after a little more calculating, I figured I get 8.6 miles per dollar and that puts what gas cost in a more tangible perspective for me. If I make a trip to the mall and back, it costs $2 or it I drive to a friends house across the river it will cost me me $4.
I can see where a weekend of just doing “stuff” could end up costing me $10 or $20 in gas. Not much compared to someone who owns an SUV or full sized pickup, but it still adds up. I think I’ll stick with riding my bicycle and keep my money in my pocket while keeping it out of the pockets of an oil company.
American policy in Afghanistan is doing wonders for the opium trade. Apparently since the U.S. has pushed the Taliban out, the opium trade has prospered so much so that the Taliban has earned $200 million to $400 million last year.
Afghan opium poppy cultivation grew 17 percent last year, continuing a six-year expansion of the country’s drug trade and increasing its share of global opium production to more than 92 percent, according to the 2008 World Drug Report, released Thursday by the United Nations.
The opium trade has soared since the U.S.-led 2001 overthrow of the Taliban, which had eradicated almost all of the country’s opium poppies. The proceeds from the illicit trade are helping finance a resurgent Taliban that is battling U.S. and allied troops.
The disappearance of the Arctic sea ice, making it possible to reach the Pole sailing in a boat through open water, would be one of the most dramatic – and worrying – examples of the impact of global warming on the planet. Scientists say the ice at 90 degrees north may well have melted away by the summer.
“I would say the ice in the vicinity of the North Pole is primed for melting, and an ice-free North Pole is a good possibility,” Sheldon Drobot, a climatologist at the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research at the University of Colorado, said by email.
Arctic warming has become so dramatic that ice covering the North Pole may melt this summer for the first time in history, according to scientists in the field.
Of course there are those who do not believe Global Warming is not real. Thank you for visiting Expressing Opinions.
Congress has passed the $162 billion Iraq war spending bill. This bill will bring the total amount Congress has provided for the war in Iraq to $650 billion since it started more than five years ago and nearly $200 billion has been spent for the war in Afghanistan.
So what has the American public gotten from this $850 billion? 536 soldiers killed in Afghanistan, 4110 killed in Iraq, and more the 30,000 wounded. Do I feel safer? No. Why? Because the re”thug”lican fear mongers are still in power, the economy is headed down the sh*tter, and there is an old white haired guy running for president that believes in a 100 year war.
And lets not forget Congress does not have the balls to step up to the plate and stop funding these wars. What else could we a spent this money on? Education, health care, cancer research, alternative energy research, and that is just to name a few.
As I surf around the web I have noticed more stories about wind power being used or it’s uses being explored by communities, states, and countries, for example an ambitious wind power program from Spain. Today I while reading through a few technology articles, I came across one about wind power off the shore of Delaware at Rehoboth Beach.
Using electricity generated by the wind, “Delmarva Power will be able to light about 50,000 homes a year, every year” for the duration of the 25-year contract, Lanard said, with first power expected by 2012.
We’ve seen a number of locales pipe in quite a bit of energy from eco-friendly sources, but the community of Rock Port, Missouri is claiming to be 100-percent wind-powered. The gloating is due to four wind turbines erected on agricultural lands within the Rock Port city limits, and while the town is expected to consume around 13 million kilowatt hours of electricity this year, the aforesaid turbines will produce 16 million kilowatt hours.
It is good to see another source of energy being explored and utilized. Oil dependence and the pollution oil brings to the environment has went on for long enough. I would rather see wind generation stations than see oil derricks and pumps.
Called the “ultimate peeing experience” by it’s inventors, it is an interactive urinal video game. The urinal has a choice of preprogrammed games from skiing to space invaders to choose from. You know a couple of drunk guys had to think this up. Below is a video of the urinal in action with interviews from the inventors.
Last night before going to bed I heard George Carlin passed away. George Carlin has always made me laugh. I have always appreciated his style of observational humor, the things he points out to us in his routines, and his unique delivery. Some of it was just plain funny, while other things were more serious and brought to light in his humorous style.
I remember being in Las Vegas and hearing he was doing a show at Caesars Palace. I managed to get tickets at a table in the front and it was one of the best times I had seeing a live performance. He ended the show with an expanded version of his seven dirty words. In Carlin style he brought out a scroll and started reading from it, which was a huge list of words and definitely expanded from his original seven. Truly funny and totally George. Thank you George.
