When it comes to the environment, John McCain only has the interests of Big Oil at heart. That’s why he has over 22 Big Oil lobbyists advising him. That’s why he favored lifting the moratorium on off-shore drilling — a move that prompted Big Oil to donate over $1 million to his campaign. And thanks to the League of Conservation Voters, we’ve got the proof!

The senate will likely be voting next week on these issues. Please call Senator McCain’s office in Washington (202-224-2235), and tell him to stop siding with Big Oil and start supporting clean energy.

The amount of money you are spending for gas is directly related to the amount of money oil companies are spending to lobby lawmakers and protect their billions of dollars of profits. Every time you fill up your SUV, car, or motorcycle you are helping to support their profits.

Big oil has a big interest in the presidential election too. They want someone in the Whitehouse to protect their interests by relaxing rules on drilling and to keep the big tax breaks in place. All while they are making billions of dollars of profits as Americans struggle.

CNN’s special report: Oil’s Washington juggernaut
Under fire for high gas prices, the industry is spending record amounts on influence in Washington. Plus: How it’s playing in the presidential race.

The amount spent on lobbying by the industry, along with lobbying money in general, has been setting records since 2005.

With record gas prices, a contentious fight over energy legislation and a huge election on the horizon it’s not surprising the industry spent so much on lobbying this year.

Dozens of bills have been introduced in Congress. Generally, Democrats and environmentalists have favored a strategy heavy on taxing oil companies and funding renewables, while Republicans and the oil industry have pushed for more drilling.

The GOP is know as the Gas and Oil Party and it is not a coincident.

If cash equals friendship, then John McCain and the oil industry are best friends.

The Arizona Republican has taken $1.4 million from oil industry employees in the 2007-2008 election cycle, more than any other politician, according to CRP.

If McCain wins it looks like we have another four years of big oil being represented in the Whitehouse, young Americans dieing for oil in a foreign land, and Americans are left standing on the outside looking in, knowing they are not represented.

I am getting tired of seeing McCain standing in a group of veterans and telling us how much he is an American. All I see is a cranky old guy living in the past with not much future left.

While Americans paid a record high of over $4 a gallon at the pump, Exxon made $11.68 billion dollars of profit. This a profit of $1,485.55 a second in the quarter. Yet in light of all this, 69% of Americans approve of drilling for off shore oil.

CNN Money.com: Exxon posts record $11.68 billion profit

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Exxon Mobil once again reported the largest quarterly profit in U.S. history Thursday, posting net income of $11.68 billion on revenue of $138 billion in the second quarter.

That profit works out to $1,485.55 a second.

How about an alternative to oil? Are 69% of Americans really that self centered and selfish? Or are Americans really that stupid? Do they care about the legacy they are leaving their children?

In the meantime while the oil company’s smile all the way to the bank and the GOP (Gas and Oil Party) blocks the passage of an important tax package for renewable energy. Whose interest is the GOP (Gas and Oil Party) protecting? Surely not the American public. Big oil and the GOP (Gas and Oil Party) must be laughing at 69% of the American who believe their bullshit.

AP: GOP blocks action on tax, renewable energy package

The bill would extend some $18 billion worth of renewable energy tax credits, helping out investors in wind and solar power, clean coal, plug-in electric vehicles and a variety of others.

Last month more than 300 high-tech and manufacturing companies warned Congress that failure to act quickly “will bring investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects to a standstill.”

Greg Wetstone of the American Wind Energy Association said Tuesday that his industry risks losing $11 billion in investment and 75,000 jobs if the tax credit expires next year.

Americans need to pull their heads out of their asses, start thinking for themselves and quit listening to the bullshit the oil company’s and GOP (Gas and Oil Party) are telling them.

Oilman T. Boone Pickens has a commercial running about our oil consumption. In it shows where we have come from and where we are going. If his facts are correct, then it is amazing and alarming in how we consume energy and export our wealth in this country. The commercial also leaves me wondering where Pickens is going with this? I found this copy of the commercial on YouTube.

Today I filled the gas tank on my 2007 Honda Civic EX 2 door and it cost me $43. For combined driving around town and freeway, I got 36.5 miles per gallon. Not bad. But after a little more calculating, I figured I get 8.6 miles per dollar and that puts what gas cost in a more tangible perspective for me. If I make a trip to the mall and back, it costs $2 or it I drive to a friends house across the river it will cost me me $4.

I can see where a weekend of just doing “stuff” could end up costing me $10 or $20 in gas. Not much compared to someone who owns an SUV or full sized pickup, but it still adds up. I think I’ll stick with riding my bicycle and keep my money in my pocket while keeping it out of the pockets of an oil company.

Saudi Arabia is convening a special oil summit over concerns there may be a drop in demand because of oil prices.

CNN Money is reporting, Saudi summit aims at oil prices

The world’s largest oil producer, worried the escalating cost of crude will dampen demand, is convening a special meeting on Sunday to seek solutions.

The Saudis are widely believed to be concerned that escalating oil prices - crude hovered around $134 a barrel Thursday, nearly double what it cost a year ago - will cause a permanent drop in demand as consumers get more efficient or, worse, the global economy slows.

I hope there is a drop in demand! I believe high oil prices is a blessing in disguise, it will force us to be more energy efficient, may help us be less oil dependent, and thus assist us in producing less pollution and help decrease our contribution global warming.
